Days after “Saturday Night Live” show creator Lorne Michaels said that there would be multiple cast departures ahead of Season 51, one cast member has spoken his truth.
On Monday, Devon Walker announced he would be leaving the hit late-night sketch comedy show. In an Instagram carousel of photos reflecting on his time at “SNL,” he wrote, “Me and baby broke up.”
In his post, Walker included a photo of himself backstage with the “SNL” logo on the TV screen behind him, a personal message to fans, a photo of him discussing the script with colleagues, and a photo of Joe Biden, seemingly comparing his departure to Biden’s exit from politics.
“Me and the show did three years together, and sometimes it was really cool. Sometimes it was toxic as hell. But we did what we made the most of what it was, even amidst all of the dysfunction. We made a f—– up lil family,” Walker wrote in his message.
The Texas native also acknowledged how happy he was to have worked with Alex and Gary—presumably referring to “SNL” writers Alex English and Gary Richardson. Walker went way back with the pair, writing that the three of them went from “running a bar show to working together at 30 Rock!”
He also shared some of his future plans. “Anyway, I’m bout to go to Japan. When I get back, I’m tryna be in a prestige drama. Ideally something with Julianne Moore. Hope y’all are staying hydrated getting some money today,” he wrote before signing the note Dev.
Walker was best known for his impressions of Michael Strahan, New York mayor Eric Adams, and his funny dialogue on the show’s Weekend Update segment.
Walker, 34, joined the cast in 2022 during Season 48, initially as a featured player and later graduating to a repertory player or main cast member.
He is the first cast member to officially confirm his exit from “SNL.” The new season is set to premiere on Saturday, Oct. 4.
