President Donald Trump railed against “Late Night” host Seth Meyers in a wild social media post he fired off in the wee hours of Wednesday morning.
“There is a sick rumor going around that Fake News NBC extended the contract of one of the least talented Late Night television hosts out there, Seth Meyers,” Trump wrote on Truth Social shortly before 2 a.m. ET.
It’s not clear what “sick rumor” the president was referring to, as there are no current reports of contract negotiations between Meyers and the network. Such talks wouldn’t necessarily be expected right now: His contract was extended last year and now runs through 2028, as Deadline reported at the time.
But the president was livid just the same.
“He has no Ratings, Talent, or Intelligence, and the Personality of an insecure child,” he wrote early Wednesday. “So, why would Fake News NBC extend this dope’s contract. I don’t know, but I’ll definitely be finding out!!!”
Trump didn’t explain why the president of the United States would “definitely” need to find out about a late night TV host’s contract status, but it may be a not-so-veiled threat given that this latest rant comes days after he said ABC and NBC should have their broadcast licenses revoked and “pay up BIG.”
Trump has already sued ABC and CBS, and won multimillion-dollar settlements from each. He’s also repeatedly attacked Meyers and all of the other late night hosts who make fun of him.
During his first term, Trump reportedly tried to have Disney, the owners of ABC, censor Jimmy Kimmel. Last month, he celebrated the news that Stephen Colbert’s “Late Show” would be canceled, and warned that the other shows would soon follow suit.
