Fox News interrupted its regular programming with a breaking news alert on Monday as President Donald Trump delivered a stern warning regarding Russia‘s ongoing conflict in Ukraine.
From the White House, Trump expressed his deep dissatisfaction with Russia and his disappointment in President Vladimir Putin. He cautioned that if a ceasefire agreement with Ukraine is not established within 50 days, the United States will enforce “very severe” secondary tariffs of 100%.
Trump also announced that a substantial amount of US military equipment would be shipped to Ukraine as part of an intensified response to Russian hostility. “We’re going to be doing very severe tariffs if we don’t have a deal in 50 days,” Trump asserted.
He emphasized the urgency by stating, “It’s all talk until missiles go into Kyiv,” and insisted that the conflict “has got to stop.” This declaration was made amid a high-stakes meeting with Nato Secretary General Mark Rutte at the White House.
“I’m disappointed in President Putin, because I thought we would have had a deal two months ago, but it doesn’t seem to get there,” Trump conveyed to the press.
He elaborated that the participating nations would send their own Patriot systems to Ukraine and the US would provide those countries with replacements.
Rutte underscored the breadth of the operation, stating the deal encompassed “missiles, ammunition” and more.
Trump also mentioned his previous attempts to broker progress with Putin, saying, “I felt he had a deal with Russia on the Ukraine war about four times. And here we are still talking.”
He continued, “I thought we should have had a deal done a long time ago, but it just keeps going on and on and on.”
Trump acknowledged the human cost of the conflict, noting “a lot of Russian soldiers and Ukrainians are dying.”
“Ukrainians continue to fight with tremendous courage,” he said, while admitting that they are quickly depleting their equipment.
Nato’s Rutte echoed this sentiment, denouncing Russia for its bombing of civilian cities, asserting these attacks were not aimed at “military goals” but rather to incite “panic.”
Rutte concluded the session by expressing gratitude to Trump, stating that the agreement enables Ukraine to acquire “really massive numbers of military equipment” for air defense, missiles and ammunition.
