It’s almost time for the San Antonio Spurs to get on the court and start a new campaign. There’s less than a month and a half until the first preseason game, which means media day, kicking off training camp will come even faster. Fans will want to know the dates that matter for the upcoming season, and it’s my pleasure to share them with you.

Dates Spurs fans should circle on their calendarSeptember 29 – Media day

Media day kicks off training camp. It’s not a ton of practice time before the preseason starts, but it’s a long year, and that’s what the summer is for. We’ve already seen photos shared by the team, showing the players in the gym working together. Building chemistry will be everything for this ball club, so it’s nice to know they’re taking that seriously.

October 6 – First preseason game

San Antonio will host the Guangzhou Loong Lions at 7:00 pm. It’ll be the first time the Spurs will host a team from a Chinese league, giving the team more reach as the NBA continues to globalize the game. The Lions have never been a particularly good team, so don’t expect a crazy preseason opener. At the same time, it’ll be the first action for the guys, so there may be some kinks to work out.

October 22 – First game of the season

The real excitement kicks off at 8:30 on a Wednesday night against our Texas rivals right up the road on I-10. The Dallas Mavericks get their season opener at home, and no doubt they’ll be amped up for Cooper Flagg’s debut. Unfortunately for them, San Antonio has a few special prospects of their own.

They’ve lost the last two season openers to the Mavs, but that should change this season with a replenished team and a lack of Luka Doncic on their side.

October 26 – First home game

The Brooklyn Nets aren’t projected to be very special this season, so the Spurs should be able to take advantage of that when they come to town for an early Sunday game at 1:00 pm. It’ll be their third game of the year. With the game falling on the weekend, expect the Frost Bank Center to be packed and full of crazed fans ready to see the Silver and Black go on the offensive.

November 7 – Spurs’ first Emirates NBA Cup game

The Cup games begin on October 31, but SA won’t play theirs until a week later. It’ll be a 6:30 pm game broadcast on National TV. All of the tournament’s games will be seen by a national audience. The league partners set to host these games are Amazon Prime, ESPN, and NBC/Peacock. Prime Video will be the streaming partner of choice for their first tourney game vs. the Rockets at home.

January 20 – Rivals Week

San Antonio will kick off Rivals Week this season on January 20. It’ll be a 7:00 game in H-Town. Rivals Week is an interesting marketing ploy, but it doesn’t take a designated week to get me revved up to play the Rockets. I’m sure I’m not the only one, but we’ll be ready to ruin Houston’s night anyway.

These are a handful of key dates Spurs fans should be ready for this season. Tickets have been on sale for a while now since the full schedule was released, so make sure you plan accordingly and get yours so you can cheer on the Silver and Black full-throated.
