RENO, Nev. (KOLO) – The Truckee Meadows Water Authority is asking customers to suspend outdoor watering until further notice due to poor river conditions caused by a mudslide near the state line.
TMWA has temporarily closed some of its water-intake capacity to prevent dirt, debris and sediment from entering the treatment system. They say that the region’s water supply remains secure, and that this is a precautionary step to reduce the volume of river water available for treatment and delivery.
“Turning off sprinklers and halting outdoor watering is the single most important action our customers can take right now,” said Will Raymond, TMWA director of water operations and water quality. “This temporary measure will help us keep the system stable until river conditions improve. Our customers have always been fantastic in helping us with challenges of this nature and we’re thankful for everyone in the community doing their part.”
Indoor water use is not affected, and there is no concern regarding the quality of drinking water.
Customers will be notified when normal river conditions allow for a resumption of regular outdoor watering schedules.
