KANSAS CITY, Mo. – You knew they had it all along, right? Don’t worry. There’s no lie detector test required.

We say all offseason, hey, it’s a new year, but let’s be honest with ourselves, some of those one-score losses of yesteryear were dancing through some fans’ heads. It is a new year, though. And when the door needed closed the Huskers did it before the Bearcat could get in and wreck the furniture.

The “Finish (Them)!” moment happened to be in the same end zone at Arrowhead Stadium that Nebraska made a goalline stop to beat Oklahoma State as time expired 27 years ago too.

Malcolm Hartzog made the pick with 34 seconds after Cincinnati had driven to Nebraska’s 33-yard-line and was threatening to screw with the weekend of all those fine people who call The Good Life home.

But there was Hartzog with the play of his career. Right after being flagged. “Next play,” his coaching were telling him. The next play was the one that would have Husker fans sleeping OK tonight.

If you’re not still a Husker fan hanging out in the Arrowhead Stadium parking lot, that is.

A 20-17 Nebraska win. A lot to work on. Better to go back to work on it when you’re 1-0.
