West Ham confirm Fernandes signing

West Ham have confirmed the signing of Mateus Fernandes from Southampton.

The deal is for an initial fee £38m plus £4m in add-ons.

Fernandes said: “I’m very happy to be here. I’m very excited to play for West Ham. I think it’s a big step for me.

“It’s a big club, a massive club. The project, the stadium, the city, everything.

“I want to try to play football, enjoy football, not just run and try to score, but try to play good football.

“I think the most important thing is to try to give everything every day.”

Tottenham are hesitant to target Morgan Rogers

Tottenham would love to sign Morgan Rogers but some figures in the hierarchy are wary of getting into another pursuit that would end up as high-profile and without success, having previously missed out on Eberechi Eze and Morgan Gibbs-White.

Villa are so far resistant to even countenancing the idea of a sale, and some sources maintain that Tottenham would not go high enough in terms of an offer to make the club reconsider.

There has been a lingering question from sources in the market over Spurs having to “learn” to do big deals again.

The haunting Ruben Amorim image that sums up Manchester United’s deep-rooted decay

Ruben Amorim claimed he had “nothing to say”, but, in vintage fashion for such a crisis, one picture said enough.

The haunting image of the Manchester United manager looking away during the shootout, having already been playing with a tactics board, was one thing. Well, two things… and they mount up.

Eddie Howe speaks out about Nick Woltemade move

Eddie Howe has revealed Newcastle’s pursuit of Nick Woltemade is progressing towards a deal with Stuttgart.

The Magpies have been searching for a replacement for Callum Wilson, who departed on a free transfer, this summer.

Alexander Isak remains away from the first team as he seeks a move to Liverpool and Anthony Gordon has a three match suspension after collecting a red card against Liverpool on Monday.

Howe said: “Things are moving and developing in a good way at the moment. Until things are done, I can’t confirm anything.

“I don’t think that [a debut against Leeds] will be possible due to lots of reasons I don’t understand.

“The most important thing is to bring a centre forward in which we have been working on all summer, and we’re getting closer.”

Brentford have sights on Beier

Brentford are in talks with Borussia Dortmund over a deal for Max Beier.

According to German tabloid Bild, the Premier League club have made an offer of just under €64m, with additional add-ons taking the full fee to as high as €69.5m.

The Bees are looking to bring in another striker before allowing Yoane Wissa to leave the club.

Wissa is agitating for a move to Newcastle, who remain abrest of the situation in case anything changes.

Brentford will not sell unless they bring in another forward first and with so many moving parts this situation could come down to the deadline on Monday.

Wolves reject improved bid for Newcastle target Jorgen Strand Larsen

Wolves turned down an improved bid from Newcastle for their striker Jorgen Strand Larsen.

Newcastle’s £55m bid, an increase on their opening £50m offer for the Norway international, has been similarly dismissed.

Wolves do not want to sell and are open to offer Strand Larsen a new contract if he stays. He scored twice in their 3-2 win over West Ham on Tuesday night.

With Newcastle seemingly moving on to Nick Woltemade it seems Wolves will be able to keep their frontman for the season which would be a big boon for them as they look to secure another season in the Premier League.
