The former Mexican American Community Services Agency youth center in San Jose went up in flames early Friday morning.
SAN JOSE, Calif. (KGO) — Crews are battling a large fire at a former youth center in San Jose early Friday morning.
The vacant former site of the Mexican American Community Services Agency youth center, on Sinclair Drive went up in flames just after 1 a.m. It grew to a three-alarm fire.
Video from the scene shows flames shooting out of the building, which appears to be a total loss.
SJPD Battalion Chief Captain Lia Diaz says the fire grew quickly and they will be working to extinguish it through the morning and into the day.
While the building was vacant, it is unknown if anyone was inside at the time of the fire.
Community members have been fighting to save the former MACSA building from demolition. It was even brought up during Thursday’s Alum Rock school board meeting.
