NC State University Police responded to a fight between four East Carolina University students and two NC State students on campus early Friday morning.

The fight prompted a heavy police and first responder presence on Founders Drive. This report comes hours after NC State football’s victory over East Carolina Thursday night.

The officer on the scene at the time told WRAL that at least eight people were involved. A new press release said that it was a fight that broke out before 2 a.m. between four ECU students and two NC State students.

All were charged with misdemeanor affray.

The ECU students were trespassed from the property, meaning they are barred from returning to campus for one year.

The WRAL Breaking News Tracker arrived to the scene around 2:45 a.m. There were three ambulances and at least a half dozen NC State police vehicles near Nelson Hall and Governors Scott Courtyard.

WRAL captured on video police speaking to four people. One person appeared to have a bruised elbow with an ice pack on his head. Officers handed the four people papers, but it is unclear what for.

WRAL did not see anyone being taken away in an ambulance.

This investigation remains ongoing and additional charges are possible, police said.

Simple affray charges carry up to a one thousand dollar fine
and up to 30 days in jail.

NC State students who spoke with WRAL say a little ribbing is fine, but the altercations can spoil the spirit of competition.

“I think it’s uncalled for,” said Will Bland. “I know there’s a lot of emotion in it but at the end of the day, it’s just a football game.”

“It’s really just sports at the end of the day,” said Patrick Miller. “Competitive
fun, but I understand people can get into it. I just think it’s not needed to
get physical.”
