Are you concerned about your Paytm UPI not working from August 31? The confusing notification from various UPI apps has got many users concerned about their UPI payment settings, wondering whether Paytm UPI will cease to function by the end of this month. Paytm has been made aware of the issue and has now issued a clarification in an attempt to address the confusion.

Paytm has clarified that the alert was incomplete, assuring that one-time UPI payments for both consumers and merchants will continue to work seamlessly without any disruption. The concern is related to automated Google Play payments, which most users usually utilise for subscription payments for various apps and services.

Paytm UPI not stopping anytime soon

The alert from Google Play was specifically aimed at users who have recurring payments, such as subscription billing, linked to their old “@paytm” UPI handle. To ensure uninterrupted service for these specific transactions, affected users must update their UPI ID to a non-Paytm handle – something which UPI apps have been insisting to users for months.

This transition is a key step in Paytm’s ongoing migration to new UPI handles linked to bank partners, which the company was approved to do by the *National Payments Corporation of India (NPCI) as a Third-Party Application Provider (TPAP).

Users, whose recurring payments are tied to the old handle, need to transition to a new UPI ID, such as @pthdfc, @ptaxis, @ptyes, or @ptsbi. The August 31 deadline is for updating these recurring mandates, as a new rule for such transactions is set to come into effect from September 1.

“This means that if a user was paying for YouTube Premium or Google One storage or to any recurring platform through Paytm UPI, they will simply need to change their old @paytm handle to the new handle linked to their bank, which is @pthdfc, @ptaxis, @ptyes or @ptsbi,” said Paytm in a statement.

All your regular payments continue to work as usual.

You only need to update your UPI handle for recurring payments (like subscriptions). Change it from @paytm to new handles like @pthdfc, @ptaxis, @ptyes or @ptsbi.

For those who are affected, the company advises either updating their UPI ID within the Paytm app or switching to another UPI platform. Alternatively, they can use debit or credit cards for their recurring payments.

Paytm UPI one-time payments continue

For one-time UPI payments on Google Play, Paytm UPI will continue to work. “Paytm UPI continues to work at Google Play. All your regular payments continue to work as usual,” says the official statement.

For those seeking the easier way, make your account on a different UPI app like Bhim, PhonePe, Google Pay and WhatsApp UPI. The new process will allow users to create a new UPI ID, which can be used for recurring payments on Google Play.
