With the groundbreaking success of K-pop Demon Hunters on Netflix, the Billboard charts, and at the box office, there’s been some chatter about getting a sequel off the ground. We need more bangers! Sony Pictures and Netflix are actively “in talks” to work on a KPop Demon Hunters sequel, according to The Hollywood Reporter. And of course they would be — it quickly became Netflix’s most viewed English language movie ever with 236 million views and counting. Box Office Mojo estimated that the theatrical run earned $18 million just over one weekend — imagine how much the sequel could make if it were released straight into theaters? Now, that’s worth singing about.
Director Maggie Kang thinks that now that the present-day story has been set for HUNTR/X, a sequel would be the perfect place to “reveal more of that backstory.” Kang told Entertainment Weekly that people were asking her to explain more of Rumi, Mira, and Zoey’s origins and how they came to be demon hunters. “I think that was one of the hardest things we kept getting asked: ‘Please show us this.’ ‘I think the audience is going to want to know this or that,’” Kang told the outlet. “We just made decisions to be like, ‘Nope, that is not essential to this story for this movie, and maybe that can be shown some other time.’”
