Cameron Norrie continues to discuss his US Open exit at the hands of Novak Djokovic, keen to emphasise the quality of his conqueror.
It is not a new claim by any means, but one that the former British number one has professed on many occasions.
Their meeting earlier this week marked a seventh straight loss for him against the 38-year-old, who has grand ambitions of claiming an elusive 25th Grand Slam title in New York next week.
However, despite all the talent Novak Djokovic boasts, which he showcased to great effect, Norrie did take issue with one thing that he did mid-match.
He has since revealed the request he made to the umpire regarding his grievance; a request that fell on deaf ears.
Cam Norrie on the umpire during his Novak Djokovic match
Speaking to a US Open media room, he was asked about the various medical time-outs taken by Djokovic, as well as his extended breaks to stretch as he seemed to be nursing a back injury.
One reporter wondered whether he felt like it was a tactic, to which Cam Norrie replied: “No, I don’t think it was a tactic, but I would have liked to see the umpire be a bit more assertive, but it changed nothing for the match.
“And, yeah, just three or four times I had to wait for him on my serve for him, partly, I think maybe he was kind of stretching or he was… But it was nothing to do with Novak.
“I was just asking the umpire, What’s the rule? Every time I have to wait for him?’ But there was not really anything there, and it was not a big deal, but I was just asking the question, you know, ’cause typically, you played to the server’s speed, but he didn’t tell him anything, even once.
“I didn’t hear him. Maybe he did, but, yeah, it was not a factor in the match at all.”
Cam Norrie’s Grand Slam performance throughout 2025
Given all the hype around Jack Draper this year as Britain’s new guiding light, Norrie has quietly performed really well throughout 2025, particularly in the Grand Slams.
After all, despite a tough first-round exit in Melbourne, he put that disappointment aside to stun many when he soared into the second week at Roland Garros.

Beaten there by Djokovic again, he backed that up with a run to the quarter-finals at Wimbledon, with Carlos Alcaraz crushing him on his way to the final.
And now, a third-round run at the US Open marks another solid display, even taking a set off the Serbian as he fought hard against one of the best of all time.
This has been a really impressive, solid year for the 30-year-old, who continues to perform admirably, albeit under the radar.
