Aston Villa are closing in on signing Victor Lindelöf on a free transfer.
Once the final details of the agreement are sorted, the former Manchester United defender will complete a medical ahead of joining Unai Emery’s squad.
Lindelöf, who turned 31 last month, has been searching for a new club this summer after leaving United upon the expiry of his contract.
His departure ended an eight-year spell at Old Trafford, having joined United from Benfica in 2017 in a deal worth around £31 million.
Last season, Lindelöf made 25 appearances across all competitions, including 16 in the Premier League. He featured in 11 of United’s final 12 league games, including their 2–0 victory over Villa on the final day of the season.
Lindelöf would bring a wealth of experience to Villa’s squad, having made 284 appearances for United and earned 71 caps for Sweden.
