Cate Blanchett joined her co-star Vicky Krieps for the Father Mother Sister Brother Venice Film Festival photocall and premiere on Sunday, serving two very different moods but reminding us why she’s in a league of her own when it comes to red carpet risk-taking.

Photocall: Polished Rebel Energy
Looking at the runway version of this Louis Vuitton Resort 2026 look, I’m thankful Cate edited it down. She kept just the leather gilet, embroidered with metallic plates and studs, and paired it with sharp black pleated trousers and sleek leather pumps. The original runway styling—with paisley trousers and a blouse—felt a little Captain Jack Sparrow, but Cate stripped it back to something modern, polished, and totally her.

Premiere: Dark Romance with a Twist
Cate Blanchett has served us countless interpretations of glamour on the Venice Film Festival red carpet, and this time she opted for something altogether unexpected. Dressed in a Maison Margiela Artisanal 2025 look, she paired a frayed edge black top with a skirt printed in a collage of nature morte paintings, finished with an appliqué of wings crafted from the same fabric. My first thought was that it looked like Cate had waded waist-deep through an aviary. But the closer you look, the more fascinating the eerie detailing becomes. That’s the genius of it: unsettling, thought-provoking, and impossible to ignore. And this is why I applaud Cate. She refuses to stand still, tossing us these fashion curveballs to remind us she can do glamour, drama, and avant-garde all in one. Black Maison Margiela leather Tabi Claw boots on Perspex wedges completed her look.
