The Jackson County Police-Involved Incident Team (PIIT) is investigating a deadly officer-involved shooting in Independence, Missouri.Investigators say Independence officers went to the area of Truman Road and Scott Avenue around 1 a.m. Sunday to look into a disturbance. Officers encountered a man in a car while checking things out and asked him some questions to learn more about what was going on.Police said the man became aggressive during the conversation and pulled out a gun. The officers told him to put it down, but he refused and they opened fire.The man died at the scene. PIIT is made up of detectives from four police departments around Jackson County who will investigate officer-involved shootings in each other’s cities. Once PIIT investigators are finished reviewing this case, they will send it to the Jackson County Prosecutor to determine if charges should be filed.
