ONE JUST AFTER MIDNIGHT AT THE SAINT ANN CATHOLIC CHURCH. NOW, THAT BUILDING IS THE OLDEST ROMAN CATHOLIC CHURCH IN GREENE COUNTY. GOOD NIGHT. AND WHENEVER THE. I HEARD THE FIRE DEPARTMENT. THERE ARE SIRENS GOING OFF. AND THEN I WOKE UP AND I LOOKED OUT. I THOUGHT IT WAS THAT BUILDING WHICH IS AN OLD GARAGE BARN. BUT THEN I NOTICED, OH, IT’S CLOSER. FATHER FRANCIS FRAZIER SAYS THE DAMAGE WAS MAINLY IN THE PRESCHOOL BUILDING. NO ONE WAS HURT. AND THE CHURCH, HE SAID, WAS BARELY TOUCHED. SAINT ANNE’S WAS FOUNDED IN 1839, AND MANY SAY IT’S A STAPLE IN THE WAYNESBORO COMMUNITY, VERY CONNECTED TO THE COMMUNITY. THEY HAVE LUNCHES AND DINNERS FOR THE PEOPLE THAT ARE STRUGGLING IN TOWN AND FUNDRAISERS, AND THEY DO A LOT OF COMMUNITY SERVICE. A suspect is in custody after Pennsylvania State Police say multiple fires that broke out over Labor Day weekend in Greene County are believed to be connected. In a release from police on Monday, five separate fires occurred in Waynesburg Borough and the surrounding areas. The fires occurred at St. Ann Church, Buddy’s Motel, and multiple residential properties in the area. Police said no injuries were reported as a result of the fires. State officials said in the release that a suspect has been taken into custody and is being interviewed. Investigators believe that all of the fires are connected. State police, alongside Waynesburg Borough police, ATF, and the Allegheny County Fire Marshal’s Office, with the assistance of a K-9 team, are actively investigating these incidents.
