In emotional scenes, almost the whole of Erinsborough got together to throw Aaron and Rhett a leaving party, waving them off as they left in their car.

Announcing a new project today, Wilson took part in an Instagram live Q & A session with his former co-star Takaya Honda, who played David Tanaka on the soap.

Asked by fans what his plans are following his exit from Neighbours, Honda said: “Should we announce the thing that we’ve been teasing?”

The pair then revealed that they had been working on a new podcast together titled Tak Talks, Matt Squawks, which is set to debut in December.

“We miss each other. We decided to come up with a way I could keep teasing Takaya,” Wilson quipped.

Explaining why they chose to start a podcast, Wilson said that the two actors have lots to share about their craft and their colleagues.

He said: “So, we thought, there’s still plenty we want to say about our work and everybody we work with, so what better way to do it than a podcast.”

“That’ll be coming later in the year, but we do have an Instagram account for you to follow along,” Honda added.

In a move that will surely delight fans of Neighbours who are upset about the show finally coming to an end in December, Honda said they hope to have plenty of stars from the soap on their new show.

“We’re gonna try and get a bunch of those people [from Neighbours] on there,” he said. “And ask all of those questions we can without a HR department. The podcast is basically just an opportunity for us to hang out and catch up.”

Neighbours releases new episodes from Mondays to Thursdays for free on Amazon Freevee and Prime Video in the UK and US. In Australia, the show airs from Mondays to Thursdays at 4pm on Channel 10, with a 6.30pm repeat screening on 10 Peach Comedy.
