Auburn Tigers head coach Bruce Pearl may have a strong recruiting edge thanks to the influence of star guard Tahaad Pettiford. Josh Lindsay, a 6-foot-0, 180-pound combo guard from Louisville, Kentucky, recently revealed that Pettiford’s playing style and leadership have caught his attention and could impact his recruitment decision.
How Is Josh Lindsay’s Rise Creating a Buzz?
Lindsay, entering his sophomore season at St. Xavier High School in Louisville, led his MoKan program in scoring this summer on Nike’s E15 Circuit, averaging 15.8 points per game. Known for his athleticism, relentless finishing, and sharpshooting from beyond the arc, Lindsay has also improved as a point guard, handling the ball more effectively and developing a versatile offensive game.

“I like to watch a lot of Ant [Anthony Edwards] for his driving and stuff, and Steph Curry for off-ball movements and his shooting ability,” Lindsay told Rivals. He currently holds five offers from Ohio, LaSalle, Eastern Kentucky (EKU), Auburn, and Kent State, but Auburn has recently caught his eye.
How Did Tahaad Pettiford Impact Auburn’s Appeal?
When asked about Auburn, Lindsay praised Tahaad Pettiford, the Tigers’ left-handed combo guard who committed in February 2023. “I watch a lot of Tahaad Pettiford, the way he just controls his team and attacks whenever he wants, and knockdown shooter. I model my game after him as well,” Lindsay said.

In the 2024–25 season, he has averaged 11.6 points, 2.2 rebounds, and 3.0 assists per game while shooting 42.1% from the field, proving his versatility and efficiency. His style resonates with recruits like Lindsay, who see an opportunity to learn from an elite player and adapt to a system that rewards speed, aggression, and skill.
Can Bruce Pearl’s Track Record Affect Lindsay’s Decision?
Pearl, in his 11th season at Auburn, brings a decorated resume that reinforces the program’s appeal. He ranks No. 12 among active NCAA Division 1 head coaches in career wins and is on the verge of becoming the all-time winningest coach in Auburn history. Under Pearl, the Tigers achieved historic milestones, including a No. 1 national ranking, four SEC championships, and memorable Final Four appearances in 2019 and 2025.
Lindsay expressed excitement about the Tigers’ style of play and Pearl’s guidance. “I’ve done a little research on Auburn basketball. I’m kind of really liking Auburn right now, how they played last year, how they finished, and I’m excited to see what they do this year,” he said.

While Auburn currently holds Lindsay’s interest, he’s still waiting on potential offers from Louisville and Kentucky. “Right now, things seem to be going well with both of them. Hopefully I’ll get those O’s soon,” Lindsay said. He emphasized wanting a program where he feels at home with coaches and teammates he can relate to.
With Tahaad Pettiford as a role model, his strong 2024–25 season, and Bruce Pearl’s proven system, Auburn may have a compelling edge in Lindsay’s recruitment. The combination of elite coaching, on-court mentorship, and a winning culture positions the Tigers as a serious contender for the young guard’s commitment.
