New app coming for consumer complaints

Greek consumers will soon be able to report unfair market practices directly from their smartphones under a new government initiative aimed at tackling high prices and profiteering.

Officials said on Monday the mobile app will be available this fall.

It will allow users to file complaints by uploading photos and videos stamped with the time and location.

Inspectors will be able to use the material to investigate cases and impose penalties.

Authorities say the new app is designed to make the process faster and more accessible.

In 2026, Greece will also establish an independent authority to coordinate inspections and oversee efforts to curb profiteering.

The agency will work with existing regulators to strengthen enforcement and increase accountability.

Households have been under pressure from high living costs, prompting consumers to monitor prices closely when making purchases.

Officials hope the new tools will improve transparency in the marketplace and restore confidence among consumers.
