A recent change by the Social Security Administration will make it easier for tens of millions of people to access their personal information.
In a blog post, SSA said it is expanding its online services available at mySocialSecurity for 24-hour, seven-day-a-week access. Included in the expansion will be the ability to request a replacement Social Security card online at any time, day or night.
According to the SSA, some 97 million people have a mySocialSecurity account.
What’s changed?
Starting now, mySocialSecurity account holders can go online to do the following at any time:
Request a replacement Social Security card onlineView status of a claimUse the Retirement CalculatorView your Social Security Statement with age-based and earnings-based fact sheetsView your Benefit Verification LetterView form SSA-1099
The 24/7 access was expanded to some existing features, as well. Those include the ability to:
View your benefits and payment informationView your voluntary tax withholding informationRead messages in the Message CenterView your direct deposit informationView your current address informationView and update your preference selectionView and update special notice optionsAccess the Upload Documents toolAccess i454 for Continuing Disability ReviewsView your appointed representative payee selection
Online access allows those who are receiving benefits to set up or change direct deposit, get a Social Security 1099 form, print a benefit verification letter and change addresses. For those not yet receiving benefits, you can go online to get estimated benefits for you or your spouse, proof that you do not receive benefits or check your application status.
