The natives are beyond restless as the board face recriminations over a nightmare summer

Furious Celtic backers have come out swinging with the club’s decision makers in the cross hairs of punters, pundits and ex-players for a transfer window which has been roundly condemned.

Only Hammarby winger Sebastian Tounekti was signed on deadline day as he secured a last-gasp £5.2million switch.

Brendan Rodgers begged for quality but the boss didn’t even land quantity as they remain without genuine replacements for Kyogo and Nicolas Kuhn and now Adam Idah‘s £7m departure to Swansea leaves Johnny Kenny and Shin Yamada as the back-ups to Daizen Maeda.

Free agent Kelechi Iheanacho is poised for Parkhead after leaving Sevilla, however, the Nigeria international is badly short of game time and goals in recent seasons as he reunites with former Leicester boss Rodgers.

Fans held out hope for some late fireworks but the disintegration of the deal for £8.5m Kasper Dolberg encapsulated a miserable Monday, and window in general for that matter, as the Premiership champions are left with glaring areas of weakness in multiple positions.

Celtic have railed against criticism of their signing strategy and execution over the years, however, the rage is palpable among their people.

Record Sport columnist Chris Sutton summed up the outrage among a fanbase who have been left dumbfounded by their clubs inability to get deals over the line.

The Hoops hero said: “The most remarkable window of all time. Celtic have come out of it weaker… at least Celtic are doing everything they can for there to be a title race this season, going into a season with great expectation and excitement after a few weeks the feeling now is utter deflation.”

And scorned former goalkeeper Benji Siegrist, who let rip over his own exit from Celtic, couldn’t resist clamping his former employers with a brief but biting dig on social media.

The Swiss keeper – now with Genoa – wrote: “Some things never change”.

And the club’s ultras the Green Brigade – long-time dissenters of the club’s senior management – have made clear they have three men in their sights as they posted a banner which calls for largest shareholder Dermot Desmond, non-executive chairman Peter Lawwell and under-fire chief executive Michael Nicholson to be banished.

Anger is rising and recriminations set to follow when Celtic return for their trip to Rugby Park in a fortnight after the international break.
