Liverpool were expected to allow more players to depart on deadline day, but at least five are still left waiting for moves elsewhere.
It was a busy final day of the transfer window for Liverpool, as they finally clinched the £125 million signing of Alexander Isak but also saw a £35 million deal for Marc Guehi fall through.
In terms of outgoings they also saw Harvey Elliott join Aston Villa on an initial loan, though there were others who were left without moves.
Those include centre-back Rhys Williams, who is now 24 and into the final year of his contract.
Williams spent last season on loan with non-league Morecambe, but despite his reputation having broken through under Jurgen Klopp, no move transpired before the deadline.
Similarly, right-back Calvin Ramsay has been left out of Liverpool’s first-team squad but is training and playing for the U21s despite being over-age.
The 22-year-old had been touted with a return to Scotland as well as a possible loan to MK Dons, but he has instead stayed on Merseyside.
Kaide Gordon attracted interest from Swansea, Derby and, on deadline day, Blackpool, but attempts to finalise a loan deal fell short.
Goalkeeper Fabian Mrozek is not involved for either the first team or U21s at present but also failed to land a move.
The same applies to striker Oakley Cannonier, who is among the oldest players in Rob Page’s U21s squad and is in desperate need of a move, though his most likely avenue – a trial at Leeds – did not result in an offer.
Liverpool can still agree sales and loans
However, though the transfer window is now closed for English clubs that does not mean Liverpool cannot still sell or loan any players.
There are a number of leagues worldwide whose transfer windows remain open, meaning the likes of Williams, Ramsay and Gordon could still find opportunities abroad.
Those include:
• Eredivisie (Netherlands) – September 2
• Eliteserien (Norway) – September 3
• NB I (Hungary) – September 4
• Bundesliga (Austria) – September 5
• SuperSport HNL (Croatia) – September 6
• Jupiler Pro League (Belgium) – September 8
• Ekstraklasa (Poland) – September 8
• Czech First League (Czechia) – September 8
• Super League (Switzerland) – September 9
• Super Lig (Turkey) – September 11
Mrozek could feasibly return to his native Poland, particularly if a third loan deal of his career can be agreed, while it is not out of the realms of possibility that Gordon would have suitors overseas.
There is also a chance the likes of Williams and Cannonier negotiate the early termination of their contracts, though that is purely conjecture at this stage.
