NBA G League Two-Part Season Structure Returns

The NBA G League will utilize its split-season format again this year, beginning with a 14-game Tip-Off Tournament before transitioning to a 36-game regular season. All 31 G League teams are guaranteed at least 50 games during the 2025-26 season.

The Tip-Off Tournament starts on Nov. 7 and will conclude at the 2025 NBA G League Winter Showcase in December. Teams are divided into four regional groups for tournament play, competing only against teams within their region during the 14-game slate.

Advancement to the Winter Showcase championship round will be determined by winning percentage, with the top team from each region joined by the next four best records regardless of regional placement. All teams will participate in a minimum of two games at the Winter Showcase.

In 2024, the Gold were an 8-seed in the tournament and made it to the semi-finals before losing to the eventual champion, Westchester Knicks.

Regular Season and Playoff Changes

Following the tournament’s conclusion, team records reset for the 36-game regular season portion, which begins during the Winter Showcase event. The regular season schedule will run through early spring.

The G League has implemented a significant change to its playoff format for 2026. For the first time, the top eight teams from each conference will qualify for the postseason, doubling the previous field of eight total teams. The expanded playoff format will culminate with the NBA G League Finals in April 2026.

Looking Ahead

The Gold organization has not yet announced details regarding promotional events, theme nights, or special giveaways for the upcoming season, saying those details will be released at a later date.
