RALEIGH, N.C. (WITN) – In an executive order, Governor Josh Stein is creating new artificial intelligence initiatives across the state.
The governor’s executive order establishes an AI leadership council, AI accelerator in the state’s Information Technology Department, and AI oversight teams within each state agency.
“Our state will be stronger if we are equipped to take on these challenges responsibly,” Stein said. “I am looking forward to this council helping our state effectively deploy AI to enhance government operations, drive economic growth, and improves North Carolinians’ lives.”
North Carolina has seen a boom in the number of industries moving to the state, including AI. There are a number of large-scale AI projects happening across the state, according to Stein’s office.
The governor’s office says planning and preparation will be needed for job growth and making AI-related energy demands manageable.
Information Technology Secretary Teena Piccione and Commerce Secretary Lee Lilley will co-chair the new leadership council together.
