Oregon sophomore quarterback entered the 2025 college football season with a ton of excitement around him. After his week one performance against Montana State, Moore’s performance has already drawn praise about his NFL Draft prospects.
Big Ten Network Analyst Jake Butt called the Ducks’ 59-13 win over Montana State this past weekend and walked away very impressed with the Ducks’ new QB1.
“I think Dante Moore will be a top 10 pick,” Butt said during a Big Ten Network College Football Show this week. “There’s a formula here for Oregon that they followed, which is to get a transfer quarterback, Bo Nix, to go get a transfer quarterback, Dillon Gabriel. Both those guys were phenomenal, but Dante Moore is an even different level of talent.”
Moore looked poised in his first career start with the Ducks last weekend, throwing for 213 yards and three touchdowns while completing 18-of-23 passing for 78.3 percent. He also added 18 more yards on the ground on three rushing attempts. Most importantly, Moore led every drive he played in for a scoring play and he didn’t turn the football over.
“He was sharp. He knew where to go with the ball. He was decisive with this reads. He was able to make some checks. I thought we had a simple plan and a plan that we could execute at a high level, and he went out there and executed it really well,” said Oregon head coach Dan Lanning after the game.
Butt said Moore’s impressive debut to this season was in large part because he was mature enough to sit and develop behind Gabriel last season as a redshirt transfer from UCLA following the 2023 season. That move has paid off in a big way, as Butt revealed that the Oregon staff is very high on the prospects of Moore turning into the next elite QB out of Oregon.
“The fact that he chose to sit and learn under Dillon Gabriel last year to understand this system with Coach Stein. Will Stein told us that when it’s all said and done, Dante has a chance to be the best he’s ever seen and he had a great start. I understand they’re going to play better opponents throughout the season, but man, did Dante Moore look comfortable in the game this past weekend.”
