TJ Oshie may have hung up his skates this summer, but that doesn’t mean he’s putting his time with the Washington Capitals behind him. During an interview with the “Spittin’ Chiclets” podcast, Oshie revealed that he’ll work for the franchise part-time this season as he looks to transition into a television career.

“We’re trying to work on a couple different things,” he said. “I’m hoping I get into some broadcasts. I will be doing things with the Caps on a part-time basis. I want to be linked with them for as long as I possibly can, because I love the organization so much, them and Monumental.”

Oshie played nine seasons for the Capitals before chronic back injuries ended his career, registering 385 points (192g, 193a) with the organization and winning the Stanley Cup in 2018. After undergoing stem-cell treatment last season in hopes of returning to the ice, Oshie announced his retirement in June before moving to Minnesota with his family.

While Oshie didn’t offer specifics of his position with the Capitals, he’s already dipped his toes into a potential broadcasting career, appearing on ESPN as a guest analyst during the Western Conference Final. He told host Paul Bissonnette, another NHL alumn who serves as an analyst on TNT, that he hopes to build on that opportunity in the 2025-26 season.

“[The ESPN appearance] was fun,” he said. “I give so much more credit to you guys that go on the broadcast with that thing in your ear. It is like — first time I had it in was right when we went live, and I was like, ‘What? I feel like I just hit someone and lost my hearing in one ear.’ It was nuts. It was so hard. But it is fun…

“But yeah, we’ll see. I hope I’m on the broadcast for a couple games. I’m not sure, Biz, if it will be at your side (at TNT) or somewhere else, but I do enjoy it and it’s a way for me to stay in the game. And I don’t have the time to commit to coaching, so. But we’ll see.”

Several of Oshie’s former teammates have already joined Monumental Sports Network in retirement. Both Karl Alzner and Devante Smith-Pelly, another member of the 2018 Cup-winning team, serve as guest analysts on Monumental’s pre and post-game shows.
