Jannik Sinner is Wimbledon champion, putting to bed any lasting effects from the heartbreaking French Open final.
Just one month ago, Sinner spurned three match points in a row before losing in five sets to Carlos Alcaraz in the French Open final.
On Sunday, he proved his status as the world number one, beating his great rival 4-6 6-4 6-4 6-4 on Centre Court.
Alcaraz and Sinner played at a frightening speed during the contest, whipping balls from corner to corner with immense power and precision.

Following the tournament, statistician OptaAce revealed the male players who hit the most winners during the tournament.
Surprisingly, four players were ahead of the new Wimbledon champion.
Nicolas Jarry hit more winners than Jannik Sinner at Wimbledon
Unsurprisingly, big-hitting Carlos Alcaraz heads the list, having struck 284 winners across seven matches at the championships.
Perhaps another unsurprising feature is Taylor Fritz. The big-serving American fired 272 winners across the tournament despite exiting at the semi-final stage.
Novak Djokovic is third on the list. Despite falling short at the semi-final stage to Sinner, the 24-time Grand Slam champion still notched 260 winners across the tournament.
The player who finished fourth is a shock. Nicolas Jarry, who won three rounds of qualifying before storming to the fourth round, hit the fourth-most winners at Wimbledon this year.
The Chilean, who performed superbly throughout the fortnight before losing to Cameron Norrie in a hotly-contested match, struck 260 winners, beating Jannik Sinner by 17.
Sinner, now a four-time Grand Slam champion, finished fifth on the list after striking 240 winners across seven matches.
Jannik Sinner hunts for the career Grand Slam
The career Grand Slam represents the pinnacle of tennis excellence. The achievement – winning all four Grand Slams – represents a player’s ability to succeed on all the major ATP Tour surfaces.
In the Open Era, only five male players have achieved the feat: Rod Laver, Andre Agassi, Roger Federer, Rafael Nadal and Novak Djokovic.
With his victory, Jannik Sinner has the opportunity to add his name to the list at the 2026 French Open. The Italian is only missing the Roland Garros title after winning in London, New York and Melbourne.

Two other players, Iga Swiatek and Carlos Alcaraz, are in the hunt. Both Swiatek and Alcaraz could achieve the feat if they win their respective tournaments at the 2026 Australian Open.
