The NASCAR Euro Series OPEN division once again proves to be the most unpredictable championship in Europe. Sixteen drivers are separated by less than 100 points heading into the playoffs, with Thomas Krasonis leading the charge after a dramatic regular season finale at Autodrom Most.

The PK Carsport driver carries a five-point advantage over reigning champion Martin Doubek. Krasonis swept both races in the Czech Republic, turning a rainy setback at Brands Hatch that he dropped from his account into momentum at just the right time.

Saturday’s win came in unusual fashion. Jordan O’Brien crossed the line first but was penalized five seconds for a false start, handing Krasonis the victory by just 0.013 seconds – the margin matching his #13 Ford Mustang. On Sunday, the 23-year-old left no doubt, dominating the field for his fourth win of the season.

Former points leader Melvin de Groot slipped to third, 17 points behind Krasonis. The Dutch veteran remains firmly in the hunt and continues to lead the Legend Trophy for drivers 45 and older.

Austrian talent Patrick Schober holds fourth, 22 points back, while Frenchman Thomas Dombrowski rounds out the top-5 only two markers behind Schober. Dombrowski also heads the Master Trophy standings by seven points over Sandro Tavartkiladze, with Bruno Mulders completing the top-3 in seventh overall.

The Master Trophy battle runs deep, with Florian Richard, Dominique Schaak and Andres Beers all sitting inside the top-10. In the Legend Trophy, Claudio Cappelli is second in 11th overall, followed closely by Sven van Laere in 12th.

With double points on the line at every playoff round, the margin for error shrinks to nothing. The chase for the OPEN crown begins September 20-21 at Motorsportarena Oschersleben in Germany, before the Championship Finals on October 11-12 at Circuit Zolder in Belgium.
