Following the massive success of Superman, DC Studios is moving fast on its next film revolving around the Man of Steel as it has dated Man of Tomorrow to bow on July 9, 2027.

James Gunn is back writing and directing, with David Corenswet and Nicholas Hoult expected to return as Superman/Clark Kent and Lex Luthor, respectively.

Gunn made the announcement on social media Wednesday with an original image of Superman and Lex Luthor drawn by Jim Lee. This comes as the latest film Superman crossed the $600 million marker at the worldwide box office; the film’s current gross is $611 million global.

In recent weeks, Gunn had hinted that he was already at work on the next film, though he did say it was not a straight sequel.

DC already has its Supergirl bowing on June 26, 2026. The studio is also set to go into production on Clayface, which is set to bow on September 11, 2026.

Superman was considered the reset of the DC Cinematic Universe, with Gunn, the co-head of DC Studios with Peter Safran, also writing the screenplay based on the characters created by Jerry Siegel and Joe Shuster. It hit theaters July 11 and opened to $125 million at the domestic box office, eventually becoming the first DC movie to cross the $300 million mark at the domestic box office since 2022’s The Batman.

In addition to Corenswet and Hoult, the main cast included Rachel Brosnahan, Wendell Pierce and Skyler Gisondo, with a load of DC characters like Metamorpho (Anthony Carrigan), Mr. Terrific (Edi Gathegi), Rick Flag (Frank Grillo) and Hawkgirl (Isabela Merced) as well.
