Jeffrey Wright, one of the busiest actors in recent years, sat down for an interview ahead of Spike Lee’s Highest 2 Lowest, where he shared his take on the growing reliance on AI, drawing from the alarming ideas depicted in Westworld. Here’s what Wright said about Artificial Intelligence.

Jeffrey Wright gives his take on AI

In his recent interview with Collider, Jeffrey Wright touched on many topics. Some were related to his work, others to his philosophy, but he eventually addressed the growing reliance on AI. He was already part of HBO’s Westworld, which explored catastrophic ideas linked to the rise of technology.

“Westworld was a documentary,” Wright said when asked if the show was still relevant today. “I think every day that becomes more and more the case. What Westworld was ultimately centered on was, yes, the technology, but more so its usage and by whom and to what end. It was a show, ultimately, about power and control by the few over the many. That’s the thing that’s most concerning to me — the distillation of power and wealth into the hands of an increasingly small circle of individuals. That’s super dangerous,” he added.

Moreover, Wright had deeper views on this. He elaborated, “I find it interesting and also concerning, too, the ways in which there’s an overlap between the creeping political authoritarianism that we see not only in our country, but globally, with the kind of authoritarian intent that’s built inside the companies that are producing these technologies.” He added, “It’s really fascinating and alarming. I think the most alarming aspect of it is the power of the technology.”

Wright called society’s growing addiction “super frightening.” He also said, “We’re in a new and I think somewhat precarious place right now.”

Wright made it clear that he is not optimistic about an AI-led future.

Jeffrey Wright appears in Highest 2 Lowest, which premieres on September 5, 2025, on Apple TV+.
