OMAHA, Neb. (WOWT) – Douglas County is reaching a milestone when it comes to treating mental health.
Community leaders hosted a beam signing ceremony at their new mental health center Wednesday afternoon.
The future community center is located near 42nd and Pacific streets. The $20 million project will address a major need in the community.
Wednesday’s ceremony was all about putting ink to the sky with the hope the new building will soon help those struggling with mental health.
The new space is slated to have six beds on two floors, providing inpatient and outpatient care.
County officials emphasized it will include all the services that currently exist.
“For those that are facing mental health issues whether it be one that is happening in the moment or one that is permanent. Either way they deserve to have the best services as possible here in Douglas County and accessible,” Douglas County Commissioner Roger Garcia said.
The county is using ARPA funds to pay for the construction of the building.
First Alert 6 is told work for the new center is expected to be done by the end of 2026.
