The WNBA action on Thursday, Sept. 4 opens at CareFirst Arena where the Washington Mystics host the Phoenix Mercury.
The game is scheduled to start at 7:30 p.m. EDT and will be broadcast on Prime Video. The Mercury enter the day tied with the Las Vegas Aces at 26-14, half a game behind the Atlanta Dream for second in the standings. Phoenix is currently fourth and would be in line to open its postseason against the defending champion New York Liberty.
The Mercury are looking to complete a season sweep of the Mystics, who are 16-25 and were the most recent to team to be eliminated from playoff contention, as they are 10th in the standings.
In the most recent meeting between these teams in July, Alyssa Thomas flirted with a triple-double, scoring 27 points, grabbing 11 rebounds and dishing out eight assists while also getting three steals and a block in an 88=72 victory. She had four teammates joining her in double-figures, including Monique Akoa Makani, who was the leading scorer for Phoenix in the first matchup.
Washington is looking to finish the season strong with the rookie duo of Sonia Citron and Kiki Iriafen, who are combining to average 28 points, more than 12 rebounds and four assists this season.
