Four second-round matches will headline day three at the WTA Hamburg Open and, as always, we here at LWOT will be offering our predictions for every match on the slate in Germany. But who will secure their spot in the last eight>

WTA Hamburg Day 3 Predictions
Kaja Juvan vs Louisa Chirico

Head-to-head: Juvan 1-0 Chirico

Kaja Juvan and Louisa Chirico are former top 60 players. But at this stage of their careers, it is the Slovenian (four years younger) who appears likelier to rediscover her spot in the upper echelons of the sport. It’s great to see Juvan enjoying her tennis after her documented mental and physical setbacks. Chirico is quietly having a solid year with two runner-up finishes on clay (both below WTA level), but Juvan won their only Tour-level meeting on hard courts, and the edge will likely widen on her favorite surface.

Prediction: Juvan in 2

Dalma Galfi vs Natasja Schunk

Head-to-head: first meeting

Dalma Galfi has played in three clay-court finals this season. She outlasted a strong field at the W100 Oeiras ITF in April and followed it up with a second title at the Catalonia 125K, where she did not lose a set all week. While she failed to reach the French Open main draw, Galfi made it up with a third-round finish at Wimbledon (lost to eventual finalist Amanda Anisimova). Natasja Schunk is a physically imposing player with a disruptive game. She is only 21, but has shown a strong affinity for clay. Galfi’s experience will count for nothing if Schunk can put in a performance as creditable as her last one at a WTA event where she lost a competitive match in Bad Homburg to Olga Danilovic. The German’s lefty forehand is the shot that could push the Hungarian over the edge.

Prediction: Schunk in 3

Arantxa Rus vs Leyre Romero Gormaz

Head-to-head: Rus 1-1 Romero Gormaz

Arantxa Rus has reached the last two finals competing in this tournament. She won it in 2023 and was a beaten finalist last year. The Dutchwoman kicked off her 2025 campaign with a solid 6-2 6-1 win over Burundi’s Sada Nahimana. Romero Gormaz enjoyed an equally routine win against Italian lucky loser Fossa Huergo, dropping just two games. The young Spaniard doesn’t overwhelm opponents with any power, but she grinds them down with her endurance and tactical point construction. Rus has similar traits, but over three sets, her composure has become unreliable to close out matches.

Prediction: Romero Gormaz in 3

Lois Boisson vs Tamara Korpatsch

Head-to-head: first meeting

Lois Boisson quickly returned to clay courts after a disappointing early exit in Wimbledon qualifying. She didn’t quite excel in replicating her French Open exploits this past week at the Bastad 125K tournament (lost in the last 16). But she might be savoring her best tennis for the Hamburg Open. Boisson began her week with a dominant 6-1 6-3 win over Julia Grabher. Tamara Korpatsch was a quarterfinalist when she competed in this tournament last season, and the German snapped a three-match losing run in her opening match against Raluca Serban. If Boisson plays with the same level of intensity and belief she showed in Paris, she’ll come out on top.

Prediction: Boisson in 2
