COLUMBUS, Ohio — College football’s transfer portal structure could be changing in the near future.
The NCAA Football Oversight Committee voted Thursday to recommend one transfer portal window, according to an initial report from Yahoo Sports’ Ross Dellenger.
The proposal contains a 10-day window which will open Jan. 2 if approved by the Administrative Committee before Oct. 1.
The current portal structure includes a 20-day window opening in December and a 10-day window in the spring.
While halving the number of windows, the new structure would largely eliminate the overlap of transfer portal movement and game preparation. Only teams playing into the College Football Playoff semifinals would have to balance the two.
Ohio State athletic director Ross Bjork has been vocal in the past about his desire for one portal window.
However, he preferred for that window to be in the spring to align with the end of the academic year as well as the fiscal year with revenue sharing now in place.
Ohio State’s memorable run in the U.S. Open ends
Former Ohio State tennis players Robert Cash and JJ Tracy put together a memorable run in the U.S. Open men’s doubles tournament, but their journey came to an end Thursday.
The unseeded duo lost in the semifinals to fifth-seeded Marcel Granollers and Horacio Zeballos — a pairing which won the French Open three months ago.
