The basketball world can’t stop comparing Caitlin Clark and Paige Bueckers. Clark took the WNBA by storm in 2024 as the Indiana Fever’s prized rookie, while Bueckers followed as the Dallas Wings’ No. 1 overall pick in 2025.

Both players carved out their own unique styles and spaces in the league, but the debates rage on about who’s truly more talented. Now, WNBA legend Sue Bird is weighing in on something she thinks everyone’s missing about this conversation.

Why Does Sue Bird Think Paige Bueckers Deserves More Media Attention?

During an episode of “A Touch More with Sue Bird & Megan Rapinoe,” the conversation turned to Bueckers’ popularity and how the media covers her rise. When co-host Megan Rapinoe asked for her take, Bird didn’t hold back.

“I think Paige is really popular,” Bird said. “I think it’s specific. I think…what I would say that I’m noticing that’s lacking, not just Paige…honestly, everyone in the WNBA. Including Caitlin! I know she’s not playing right now. It’s like…where is the ‘more?’”

Bird acknowledged that media coverage has jumped from four to 16 percent, but everyone’s hoping for even more growth. However, she made it clear that wanting more coverage for Bueckers doesn’t mean taking anything away from Clark.

“I think at times, when people say Paige should have more, they think that means taking away from Caitlin. And it doesn’t. Caitlin deserves everything she gets, and Paige deserves more…I think, specific to Paige, you might argue her popularity, and the people that are fans of her, has been underrated. Which shocks me!”

The Seattle Storm legend believes people might have forgotten just how popular Bueckers became and how fans gravitated toward her game. When comparing media coverage to Clark’s treatment, Bird argued that Bueckers should receive similar attention, especially given her established fanbase.

“And that’s not to compare them, and that’s not to diminish Caitlin,” Bird clarified. “That’s not what it’s about. It’s about talking about Paige. I think it was undervalued. Underrated.”

How Did Bird Previously Compare Caitlin Clark and Bueckers’ Playing Styles?

Back in May, Bird addressed the constant comparisons between Bueckers’ rookie campaign and Clark’s breakout season. While she understood why fans love making these comparisons, the WNBA legend offered a different perspective on their approaches.

“A lot of people compare Paige and Caitlin, I totally get why, it’s fun to do,” Bird said. “What’s different, I think, about her is that Paige is more like, gonna feel out the team, feel out the system. And then eventually you’ll see her impact and you’ll see her play. You kind of caught that a little bit in the preseason.”

Bird predicted that once Bueckers found her rhythm within Dallas’s system, she would deliver an impressive rookie season. That prediction has largely proven accurate.

Despite the Wings struggling to a disappointing 9-33 record that leaves them at the bottom of the standings, Bueckers has exceeded expectations individually. She’s mastered her mid-range game while scoring 18.9 points, 3.8 rebounds, 5.3 assists, and 1.6 steals per game.

Her standout moment came with a record-breaking 44-point performance against the Los Angeles Sparks in August. Though Dallas lost that game 81-80, Bueckers proved she belonged among the league’s elite scorers.

With just two games remaining in the regular season, the Wings will soon wrap up their 2025 campaign. While team success eluded them, Bueckers established herself as a cornerstone player for Dallas’s future.
