COLUMBUS, Ohio — Nationwide Children’s announced in a statement that they will cease the prescription of gender-affirming medication to their patients starting Sept. 26.
Though they said they are compliant with current regulations, they are doing this “to proactively plan and support our providers and patients in a rapidly changing regulatory environment.”
“The hospital will be working with affected patients to end their prescriptions, always with patient safety as a top priority,” the statement reads. “Nationwide Children’s will continue to support these patients and families through the provision of behavioral health services, and any other needed healthcare.”
A Franklin County common pleas court judge recently ruled to uphold HB 68, also known as the SAFE Act, which bans gender transition care for minors under the age of 18. The bill had been vetoed by Gov. Mike DeWine but overridden by the state’s House and Senate.
