Cuban authorities have launched a large-scale genetic programme in the key livestock-producing province of Camaguey, aimed at strengthening the country’s food sovereignty, reports
Prensa Latina, a partner of TV BRICS.

The initiative involves the introduction of modern breeding technologies to accelerate the development of new cattle breeds across all 13 municipalities in the province.

Plans also include expanding the national genetic collections and offering widespread training for farmers. A strong educational focus will underpin the scheme, with seminars, advisory services and access to specialised literature.

Officials expect the measures to improve breed quality, which in turn should boost production levels and enhance the sector’s resilience to both economic pressures and environmental challenges.
