KALAMAZOO, Mich. — A 24-year-old male is in custody and being held at the Kalamazoo County Jail after deputies responded to reports of a man breaking into the Cooper Market late Friday evening.

Kalamazoo County Sheriff’s deputies were dispatched to 8005 Douglas Avenue, also known as the Cooper Market in Cooper Township, at around 11:16 p.m. Friday night.

According to the Sheriff’s Office, the market was closed for business, and upon arrival, they found that the suspect had used a brick to shatter the glass front door and enter the establishment.

The suspect stole several items of merchandise and fled on foot before deputies could arrive.

After obtaining a physical description of the suspect, the 24-year-old male was located lying down next to a building nearby. He was taken into custody without further incident.

As of Saturday morning, Cooper Market is back open for regular business hours.
