COLUMBUS, Ohio – A pair of Ohio State legends were enshrined this weekend in the Naismith Basketball Hall of Fame. Broadcasting legend Clark Kellogg received the Curt Gowdy Media Award and Michael Redd was honored for being part of the 2008 USA Basketball Men’s National Team. The 2025 honorees were announced during last season’s All-Star Weekend in February.
Kellogg has been a fixture on CBS and its coverage of collegiate basketball and the NCAA Tournament for more than three decades. He served as studio co-host for early-round tournament coverage from 1994-97 before joining CBS Sports full time in 1997 as both a studio and game analyst for college basketball regular-season games and March Madness.
His deep knowledge of the game, signature enthusiasm, and coining of ‘spurtability’ – describing a team’s ability to go on a substantial scoring run – have made him a fan favorite. In 2008, Kellogg replaced Billy Packer as CBS’s lead college basketball analyst, calling the Final Four and National Championship games alongside Jim Nantz until he returned to the studio in 2014.
Kellogg began his career in broadcasting shortly after ending his NBA career, signing on with his former team, the Indiana Pacers, as a radio analyst before making his television debut with Cleveland State University. In 1988, he joined ESPN, providing analysis for college basketball games and contributing to the Big East Network and Prime Sports. That same year, he became a TV analyst for the Pacers, a role he held until 2012.
The Cleveland, Ohio native was a standout for the Buckeyes from 1980-82, bursting into the starting lineup right away as a freshman. He averaged 14.9 points and 10.1 rebounds over his three seasons. He was the 1982 Big Ten’s Most Valuable Player and earned AP All-America honors that season. He was the No. 8 overall pick by the Indiana Pacers in the 1982 NBA Draft and would play five seasons before beginning his broadcasting career.
Kellogg was a member of the Ohio State Board of Trustees from 2010 to 2019 and was inducted into the Ohio State Athletics Hall of Fame in 2001.
Redd was an All-Big Ten honoree in each of his three seasons while leading the Buckeyes in scoring every year. He sits sixth all-time with 1,879 career points and is one of only three Buckeyes to have three 500-point seasons, joining Jerry Lucas and William Buford. He helped lead the Buckeyes to the Final Four in 1999 (which was later vacated by the NCAA)
Redd was drafted by the Milwaukee Bucks 43rd overall in the 2000 NBA Draft and he would playe 12 seasons in basketball’s top league. He spent 11 years in Milwaukee and suited up for the Phoenix Suns in 2011-2012, his final season.
An NBA All-Star in 2004, he retired with the fourth-most points (11,554) in Bucks history and held the team’s single-game scoring record with 57 points versus Utah in 2006. Redd also set the NBA record for most three-pointers in a quarter with eight in a game against Houston in 2002 before it was later broken in 2015.
One of his crowning achievements, and what will live on forever in the Hall of Fame, was being a member of the 2008 USA Men’s Basketball Team. Nicknamed the “Redeem Team”, the Americans defeated its opponents by an average of 27.9 points on their way to the Gold Medal.
