Arsenal have not been too savvy when it comes to selling players over the years.
The £35m sale of Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain to Liverpool in August 2017 is still the record outgoing at Arsenal, which is a concern.
For context, Omari Hutchinson – a Hale End graduate – just moved from Ipswich to Nottingham Forest for a fee of £38m.
Arsenal fans have even complained about this weakness within the Emirates Stadium, after seeing Liverpool receive £15m for the likes of Tyler Morton and Chelsea receive £70m for Nicolas Jackson.
Mika Biereth was one particularly talented player Arsenal sold back in July 2024 for a measly sum of just £4m – but the Dane is now one of the most valuable strikers in Europe.
Mika Biereth now valued at £61m
The CIES Football Observatory have just released their latest financial figures, and the numbers suggest Arsenal made a serious mistake.
Biereth is classified as a €71m (£61m) forward – above the likes of Victor Osimhen and Jhon Duran on the list – as a result of his stunning rise since swapping Arsenal for Sturm Graz.
23 goals in 47 appearances for the Austrian side earned the Denmark international a £10.8m move to Monaco in January 2025, where he has impressively bagged 13 goals in 22 games.
At the age of just 22, Biereth – who Ian Wright admires – has plenty of time on his side to get even better, and Arsenal will surely be regretting their decision to let the prolific striker leave for just £4m.
Arsenal return would be “fantastic” for Mika Biereth
Despite the Gunners selling him, the man born in Lambeth would seemingly consider coming back.
Biereth opened the door to Arsenal during an interview with Danish outlet TV2 back in October last year, saying: “If I keep playing well and scoring goals, hopefully a change can come, but right now I’m focused on Sturm.
“A return to Arsenal would be fantastic, but it’s not something I’m focusing on right now.”
Biereth is tied to Monaco until June 2030 – however – so it would surely require a significant fee for any side to buy him out of that contract.
