TUSCALOOSA, Ala — Early Monday, Nate Oats and the Crimson Tide picked up their first commitment of the 2026 recruiting cycle in 6-foot-9 small forward Chris Washington Jr.

Washington Jr. chose Alabama over programs such as Ole Miss, Tennessee, and Auburn. The top-30 recruit visited Tuscaloosa this weekend.

“I chose Alabama because they’ve been recruiting me since I was a freshman in high school,” Washington Jr. told On3’s Joe Tipton, “and they’ve just been keeping in contact with me since then. I feel like Nate Oats, coach (Christian) Pino, and the whole staff believe in me.”

“I’m a big guard,” Washington Jr. added to Tipton, “Maybe Brandon Miller 2.0.”

Brandon Miller, of course, led the Crimson Tide to arguably the most successful season in program history in 2023. Leading the Crimson Tide to an SEC double crown and the No. 1 overall seed in the NCAA tournament. Alabama eventually lost in the Sweet Sixteen to San Diego State.

During that campaign, Miller averaged 18.9 points and 8.2 rebounds a game, earning SEC Player of the Year honors.
