After playing for the Grand Rapids Griffins the past two seasons, veteran defenseman Brogan Rafferty has signed a two-year contract with the Vaxjo Lakers of the Swedish Hockey League.
Rafferty, 30, appeared in 114 games for the Griffins over the past two seasons, tallying 10 goals and 48 points.
The Detroit Red Wings signed Rafferty to a two-year, two-way contract in 2023 and recalled him several times when they needed a seventh defenseman just in case, but he did not appear in a game for them.
Rafferty played for four AHL teams over the past six seasons while appearing in three NHL games for the Vancouver Canucks.
“Brogan is a defender we have had our eye on for a few years,” Vaxjo general manager Henrik Evertsson said on the team’s site. “With his exceptionally good passing game, he fits really well into our style of play.”
