The funkiest dancers ever to perform on “America’s Got Talent” just received a standing ovation from Mel B and strong compliments from Simon Cowell, Sofía Vergara, and Howie Mandel.
The Funkateers, from Inkster in Metro Detroit, performed live in the quarterfinals of the hit NBC talent competition on Tuesday, September 9.
We first me them when they auditioned on “AGT” in June. Host Terry Crews., who is from Detroit, gave them his Golden Buzzer, automatically sending them into tonight’s quarters.
“You guys are just pure joy,” Mandel said after their dance routine to Chaka Khan’s “I Feel For You.” “I imagine everybody in America is just smiling; just a good feeling that makes me proud to be a part of ”AGT’s” 20th season.”
“Let me tell you, old school never fails,” added Mel B, who gave them a standing ovation. “You killed it up there. You four are brilliant.”
“I think we all love you,” said Cowell. “It’s how you make us feel. You obviously are talented, but it is your fun, your friendship, the fact that you kept doing it. This is everything I love about a great ”AGT” act. One of my favorite acts tonight.”
The four men became a group 45 years ago, entering and winning a talent show back in high school in 1980. They said the last time they had performed together before “AGT” was at one of their weddings back in 1989.
Tonight was the last round of quarterfinals performances with four more acts going through, being announced tomorrow night on the results show.
VOTING ENDS AT 7:00 a.m. ET, 4:00 a.m. PT
