The Washington Capitals announced a 23-man roster for this year’s Rookie Camp on Tuesday afternoon. The camp, taking place in Annapolis, Maryland again, is set to get underway on Friday, September 12.
Among the 23 participants in the camp are most of the Capitals’ top prospects, including Ryan Leonard, Andrew Cristall, and Ilya Protas. The club’s first-round draft picks from the previous two drafts, Terik Parascak (2024) and Lynden Lakovic (2025), will also be in attendance.
Overall, 16 of the attendees are Capitals draft picks, an increase of six drafted prospects from last year’s roster. The other players are either college free agents or signed to AHL contracts with the Hershey Bears.

Leonard, 20, will participate in his first-ever Capitals rookie camp as he was prevented from attending the previous two years due to his NCAA commitments at Boston College. The rookie winger made his NHL debut with the Caps last season and featured in 17 combined regular-season and playoff games. In his final season at BC, Leonard recorded 49 points (30g, 19a) in 37 games.
Cristall will be back at another camp after he impressed Capitals brass enough last year to be the final cut of the team’s main training camp. The 20-year-old winger returned to the WHL for a fifth season during the 2024-25 campaign and tore the league to pieces, recording 132 points (48g, 84a) in 57 games for the Kelowna Rockets and Spokane Chiefs.
Protas, the younger brother of Capitals forward Aliaksei Protas, will be at his first rookie camp after he did not attend last year’s. The big Belarusian is expected to turn pro this season after posting 124 points (50g, 74a) in 61 games for the OHL’s Windsor Spitfires last season.
Parascak and Lakovic are both likely to head back to the WHL for the 2025-26 campaign. Parascak tallied 82 points (28g, 54a) in 59 games for the Prince George Cougars last season, while Lakovic notched 58 points (27g, 31a) in 47 games for the Moose Jaw Warriors.
A total of 23 players (15 forwards, six defensemen, two goaltenders) will be in attendance, including 16 Capitals draft picks. Full schedule of the festivities can be found at the link below. https://t.co/p3cG6P1ekA
