Last year, Whoopi Goldberg went viral after stating that she was “having a hard time” financially.

She said during an episode of The View, “I appreciate that people are having a hard time. Me, too — I work for a living! If I had all the money in the world, I would not be here, OK? So, I’m a working person, you know?”

“My kid has to feed her family. My great-granddaughter has to be fed by her family. I know it’s hard out there,” she added.

For context, Whoopi took up cohosting The View back in 2007, with Variety reporting almost a decade later that her contract was estimated to be between $5 and $6 million. With this in mind — and the fact that the EGOT-status actor and producer has an estimated net worth of $20 million — several fans were confused and outraged by her comments about her supposed financial hardships.

Fast-forward to today, and Whoopi has once again publicly discussed her finances, claiming that she cannot “afford” to retire from The View.

When asked during a recent interview with Entertainment Tonight if she ever thinks about “slowing down” and “enjoying” her life without working, Whoopi — who is 69 — replied, “Yeah, but who can afford to do that?”

Whoopi has been married three times; she last divorced from actor Lyle Trachtenberg in 1995, just a year after they tied the knot.

The Entertainment Tonight reporter then challenged Whoopi on her comments, replying, “I feel like you might be one of the people that could afford it by now.”

However, Whoopi doubled down. “No, not by now. Not yet,” she said before later adding, “I gotta keep paying those bills, baby.”
