The weekend of college football and NFL football provided some mixed results for the mitten state.
The fan base of the Michigan State Spartans partied like it was 1999 with a double overtime win over Boston College 42-40. I can tell you, it was a great football game to watch!
How about Aidan Chiles throwing for four touchdowns! It was a tremendous win for the Michigan State Spartans football team.
The Spartan fans could not be happier being 2-0 to start the 2025 season. The Spartans will host Youngstown State this Saturday.
The Michigan Wolverine fan base was not as happy as Oklahoma defeated the Wolverines handily 24-13. The Wolverines, I thought, were pretty well dominated the entire football game on both sides of the football. I also thought the Michigan coaching staff was afraid to let Bryce Underwood use his skills at quarterback. The entire game plan was way too conservative and predictable making it too easy for Oklahoma to defend. I mean, let Underwood display his skill set for cripes’ sakes, and take off the kid gloves! The Michigan Wolverines will be at the Big House at noon this Saturday hosting the Central Michigan football team.
The Detroit Tigers are settling in for the stretch drive of the MLB season. The Tigers currently sit at 20 games over 500 and hold a commanding eight-game lead over the Cleveland Guardians. The Tigs have just under 20 games left in their season. I believe the Tigs need to try to finish with the best record in the American League and not just coast into the playoffs.
I think it is super important to play competitive baseball all the way to the end of the season. The bullpen needs to sharpen up or it will be a quick exit in October for the boys in the Old English D. The bullpen will be the key to the Tigers’ chances of making the World Series in October in my opinion. I, like many Tiger fans, are anxiously awaiting October baseball.
The NFL’s week one is in the books and what a wild weekend it was! The Buffalo Bills and Baltimore Ravens game was an instant classic with a miracle come-from-behind win by the Bills 41-40.
The Minnesota Vikings debut of quarterback J.J. McCarthy was a successful one with a victory over the Chicago Bears on Monday Night Football. The Ben Johnson era starts out with a loss as the coach of the Chicago Bears.
The Lions’ ex offensive coordinator brings his Chicago Bears team to Ford Field to take on the Lions this Sunday.
The Green Bay Packers absolutely dominated the Detroit Lions in every phase of the football game last Sunday. The Packers 27-13 win over Detroit gives them an early leg up on the division, and it also left the Lions meowing off the football field. I was totally disgusted with the entire performance by Detroit.
The first thing I want to address is the gambling man Dan “I Refuse to Play my Starters in the Preseason.” It severely backfired! The offense was not in sync. The Lions looked a step slow on offense. I thought Goff looked rusty at quarterback. The bottom line is, these starters need some reps in the preseason, and it will carry over to the regular season. The Lions were so sloppy it was disgusting.
The offensive line was pushed around pretty easily by the Packers front on defense. The play of the offensive line is very concerning to the Fat Guy to be brutally truthful. The Lions better win on Sunday against the Chicago Bears or panic will set in with all of us Lions fans!
