CHARLESTON, S.C. (WCSC) – A fire engineer with the James Island Public Service District has been reported missing by family and friends while he was on vacation in Bali, Indonesia.
Wesley Fairey traveled with friends to Uluwatu in Bali on Aug. 15 and was to return to the U.S. on Sept. 8, according to his mother, Taunya Fairey.

A friend of Wesley Fairey said in a Facebook post that Fairey was staying at the Klapa Resort near Padang and checked out on Aug. 25. He reportedly rented a black sedan and left the Uluwatu area around Aug. 25.
Taunya Fairey says she lost communication with her son around Aug. 29.
“We have been in contact with numerous local, state, and federal agencies regarding information pertaining to his whereabouts. We are hoping someone can provide us with information about any bank or phone activity during that time. We urge anyone with information to reach out to the United States Homeland Security,” she said in a statement.
He is in his early 40s, stands 6 feet tall, weighs 250+ pounds and has a beard.
James Island Public Service District Fire Chief Mark Davis provided the following statement:
“The James Island Public Service District is aiding the authorities in their search for missing JIPSD Fire Engineer Wesley Fairey, a 20-year veteran of the department. We’re doing everything we can to support his family and friends during this difficult time and are eagerly awaiting his safe return home.”
