Reed hauled in a 39-yard touchdown pass with just more than 11 minutes to play in the opening quarter and landed hard on his right side with Commanders safety Quan Martin‘s weight coming down on him. Adding insult to the injury was that the play was negated by a penalty.
Clearly in pain, Reed made his way to the locker room and was later ruled out.
Officially, Reed had no statistics in Thursday’s abbreviated outing and had three catches for 45 yards and a touchdown in Week 1 against the Detroit Lions.
The loss of Reed, 25, is a big one on its own but compounds the Packers’ injury issues in the WR room. The team is already without Christian Watson, who’s coming back from an ACL tear suffered in Week 18 of last season.
In Reed’s absence Thursday, tight end Tucker Kraft was the team’s leading pass catcher with six receptions for 124 yards and a touchdown. Dontayvion Wicks was the team’s leading wide receiver with four catches for 44 yards and first-rounder Matthew Golden went without a catch on two targets.
The Packers are 2-0, but they’ll be without Reed for at least the next six weeks.
