Kelechi Iheanacho signed a one-year deal with Celtic before the international break.

The Hoops failed to buy a replacement striker for Adam Idah on transfer deadline day, so settled for free agent Iheanacho instead.

Iheanacho was released by Sevilla, which allowed Celtic to sign him for nothing and reunite him with old manager Brendan Rodgers.

Kilmarnock is up next for Celtic and Iheanacho says he is fit to face them at Rugby Park having trained with his new teammates since Monday.

So what are captain Callum McGregor’s first impressions of the Nigerian?

McGregor sat down in front of the press at Lennoxtown on Friday and was asked initially if he feels Celtic have emerged from the transfer window strong enough.

He then went on to describe Iheanacho as ‘hungry’ in training and that the early signs are good for the former Leicester City hitman.

McGregor said: “I think, having seen what I’ve seen this week in training, certainly in the last week, there’s a real hunger, there’s a real desire for the guys that have come in and actually really good level as well.

“We’ve added sort of pace and penetration at the top end. We’ve added a top striker, albeit not played so much, but the early signs are good. He looks good, he looks hungry to be part of what we’re doing here.

“So I’ve actually been really encouraged with what I’ve seen in the last sort of seven, eight training sessions over the break.

“I believe that if we start well on Sunday and we start to gather some momentum, I think the team will start to really come together.”

Will Iheanacho play against Kilmarnock?

Rodgers was asked at his own presser how his squad is shaping up ahead of the visit to East Ayrshire on Sunday.

He revealed that Kieran Tierney is not injured and trained on Friday, while Iheanacho is also available for matchday selection.

But will he start as the main striker? It’s between Iheanacho and Daizen Maeda given Adam Idah was sold on deadline day.

Maeda, however, wants to leave Celtic – so where does that place him in Rodgers’ selection thoughts? Time will tell.
