Back from our golf trip to Traverse City, Michigan (Cherry Capital of the World). Despite the terrible weather during our golfing days, we made the best of it. Traverse City is a neat little city right on Traverse Bay that leads into Lake Michigan. Due to the weather, we were unable to take advantage of the outdoor activities. This would be a good city to enjoy some water activities as well as biking around the bay. The water is beautiful and clear and reminds me of the Caribbean especially Torch Lake. Plenty of things to do even when the weather is bad. Stopped in the casino and tried different watering holes and had good meals everywhere we went. The hour trip to Arcadia Bluffs was cool once you got close to the golf resort.
Day 1: A-Ga-Ming (Sundance Course) – Great course to start the trip. The course is all in front of you (no tricks) and is something I could play every day. Plenty of character and was in really good shape.
Day 2: Arcadia Bluffs (Bluffs Course) – Course is rated as the #16 public course in America. It didn’t disappoint and was breathtaking. However, toughest conditions that I have EVER played. The course was so tough to get a tee time on that we braved the elements. The course was still packed despite the insane conditions…sustained 35mph – 45mph winds, cold, and some rain. Pics below. This is worth the trip if you ever have the opportunity.
Day 3: Grand Traverse Resort (Wolverine Course) – Decent designed course but disappointing after playing the Bluffs. The rain was heavy at times and the course didn’t drain well. Not sure I would add this to the rotation if we go again. We all didn’t think there was value for this course for the price they charged.
Day 4: Forrest Dunes – Course is rated as the #32 public course in America. I thought this course was great but not sure it was worthy of such a lofty rating. A nice blend of holes winding through the forest and then more links style in the dunes. This course was in a great shape and had a cool #19 hole plus a short course and longest putting green with insane slopes that’s great for bets.
The weather put a damper on the experience but I think we would consider going back there in the future. Again, Arcadia Bluffs is worth the trip at least once.
